Featuring bruises, sweat and blood, this is a new version of the notorious Ballet Russe ballet sacrifice takes on a very real dimension. A live Mixed Martial Arts match is fought to the original Stravinsky score by two dancers recently trained in combat techniques.

Rite of Spring was commissioned by Producer Clara Giraud for her micro-festival Birthday RitesTo mark the 100th anniversary of the premier of the Rite of Spring she has commissioned three new pieces that celebrate, interrogate and contemplate the hundred year legacy of that night and trigger a dialogue about this heritage: asking what might radicalism or provocation look like today?

Birthday Rites is funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and supported by the Chisenhale Dance Space
